Seasonal
Winter Care for Dogs in Kathmandu
· 3 min read

Cold floors, chilly mornings and dry air: how to keep dogs warm from Mangsir to Magh.
Kathmandu winter nights fall close to freezing, and most homes are not heated. Puppies, seniors, small breeds and short-haired dogs feel it most.
- Lift the bed off the floor. A raised or thick padded bed stops cold marble and cement drawing heat away.
- A well-fitted sweater or jacket helps on morning walks. Take it off indoors if your dog is warm.
- Dry your dog fully after a bath and bathe less often in the coldest weeks.
- Outdoor and guard dogs need a dry, draught-free kennel with thick bedding.
- Older dogs with stiff joints benefit from gentle regular walks and a joint supplement if your vet recommends one.
Dogs burn a little more energy keeping warm, but most pets do not need extra food unless they live outdoors. Keep an eye on weight and adjust portions.
